UK Agro Farm Blogger Media Event
UK Agro Farm Blogger Media Event 2010
This blogger media event was the next medium-sized event organised by UK Agro Farm on the 4th and 5th December 2010, about two months after the photography contest event. The event targeted the blogging community in Malaysia to provide some blog coverage on the location. With a small publicity thru this blog (www.dslrfanclub.com/events/429-media-tour-to-uk-agro-resort-2010.html), 13 applicants (http://ukfarm.com.my/news.htm) were selected.
Agrofarming is not new in Malaysia. But combining animal husbandry, breeding, animal produce and leisure is. And that is what exactly UK Agro Farm ("UK") does -- leisure farm. Goat farming is UK's specialty. While UK has been in the business of manufacturing and marketing of goat products for many years, the leisure business is fairly new. The latter recently began its activities in June 2010. The place, situated in Kluang, occupies 130 acres of agriculture land, and offers accommodation in the forms of longhouse chalets with air-conditioning facilities and the more open dormitories, all located in the middle of the farm land surrounded by vast grazing area for the goats and nearby goat pens. The goats are mostly of Jamnapari breed which can tolerate the humidity conditions and environment in this geographical region.
Visitors get to experience the wonders of goat farming among some are: guided tour to understanding the goat farming process, goat feeding -- hay and milk, the "adrenaline rush" goat catching and the centre of attraction activity which is observing the large batch of goats running back from the grazing area back to their pens before releasing the next batch from the pens into the grassland. The guide prepares the visitors around the area to watch the "cross-country" run.
Other recreational and relaxing activities include archery, karaoke, floating lanterns, horse carting and ostrich feeding; visits to passion fruit street, mushroom farm and herbal farm.
The dining halls serve Halal food throughout; for those who loves BBQ will get to savour lamb muttons, sate, roast chicken wings, otak-otak, fish balls and sausages. Fresh goat milk, flavoured goat milk ice-cream like chempedak and durian, and organic fruit juices such as passion fruit are available. The farm mart is also located in the same place. Assorted merchandise, organic food and goat products like goat cosmetic and toiletries can be found inside the convenience store so you do not have to drive out all the way to town which is another 8 km away. For the visitor, please note that UK Agro Farm properties starts from the brick-and-wood entrance after about 15 minutes drive from the main Batu Pahat Road. Along the way from the main tarmac road are also agriculture farms, orchards and bio-hazard processing facilities not belonging to UK Agro Farm.
Shuttle buses (resembling modified yellow school bus) are available to ferry visitors within the site, including to the chalets and dormitories.
Another new attraction is the Orang Asli (aboriginal people) village which is being developed into a larger community. Visitors get to know how traps are set up for wild boars, birds, elephants and tigers; additionally they get to climb up to one of their huts about 20 feet high. UK expects to complete this project in another few months when it will open to visitors for accommodation, yet offering another avenue of stay even closer to nature.
Companies can look forward to carry out business meetings and holding corporate events with UK. Couples who are tying the knots can use the farm for wedding.
What makes UK special is its ability to entice visitors into the concept of living with nature with lush eye-soothing greenery. The expanse of the farm area also offers photography opportunities on landscape, nature, sunrise/sunset, and night... just to name a few genres. One can also take a leisurely stroll or light jogging in the vicinity.
That said, how about a weekend sojourn at UK to escape the hustle and bustle of hectic work life?
More info and directions on getting there and about the company at the official website: www.ukfarm.com.my. UK is also in Facebook: www.facebook.com/UKAgroResort. To date, the Facebook page already has more than 5,000 likers.
